All players are assumed to have an insula in the city of Rome, on the edge of the Caelian Hill. They gain income from a small, family owned farm on the rural outside of Rome. This farm provides the money required to own and maintain the city insula, a slave or two, and to buy small trinkets for gifts or souvenirs. Military officers returning from campaign will have a one time bonus which may be spent as the player wishes.
GMs will judge the amount of money a player would have to spend on a request, and determine the exact result based on that determination.
As players rise in status they will have access to increased money. It is assumed that the slave in charge of the player's farm will wisely purchase available land from neighbors as the player's resources allow, and this increased land will give the player more money to spend. This can be used to purchase votes, recruit soldiers, or buy new lands in a city. Players are encouraged to buy suitable housing as their rank rises, the plebs notice how wealthy a candidate presents himself to be, and a house serves as a permanent reminder of wealth and status. Loans are allowed, and terms must be decided by the characters when the transaction takes place.
Players may present business ideas which will gain or lose money depending on their success. These ventures will be accounted for in determining a player's spending power.
Players who purchase a home are encouraged to describe it in as great detail as possible. This description will provide a bonus to their perceived wealth.
