OOC Rules:
Rule 1: Be a good citizen of the forum. Trolling, edition warring and otherwise sabotaging the peace of the board damages the quality of discussion and is not acceptable. Being “right” is not an excuse to engage in behaviour that degrades the Bellum Punicum experience.
Rule 2: Do not make attacks against other gamers. Challenging arguments and ideas is fine, but not attacking the people holding them. This includes attacks on an individual poster, or groups that any reasonable person would understand includes fellow members. Racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic posts will not be tolerated. Support of Gamergate, Stormfront or any other hate group is not tolerated and will result in banning.
Rule 3: Your posts should contribute to discussion. Post in the appropriate forum. Do not post on the current banned topics. Do not make posts empty of content (links without comment, “+1” etc.). Do not reply to or discuss moderation in-thread, take it to Trouble Tickets or the Administrators.
Rule 4: Do not post anything illegal under U.S. law, or encourage others to break U.S. laws or the laws of their country of residence.
Rule 5: Do not post or link to pornography or any form of inappropriate explicit sexual content.
Rule 6: Respect the privacy of your fellow gamers. Do not post emails or private messages without explicit written permission of all those involved. Do not use any posts or part of posts from these forums for commercial purposes without the express permission of each person involved.
Rule 7: Red text is reserved for use by the moderation staff. A member of staff posting in red text is posting as a moderator, and their instructions must be followed.
Rule 8: Do not share your account with anyone, as you will be held responsible for all posts made by your account. Do not impersonate other users, past or present.
Rule 9: Do not ask for medical, legal or other professional advice. Do not request emergency crisis counseling or solicit personal financial donations.
Rule 10: The staff moderates to the spirit of the rules and the context at hand. Conforming to the rules to the letter is not a magic talisman against moderation if your posts are bad for the forum. The game's admins have the final say in acceptable content and may take any action, up to and including bans, to enforce civility in OOC interactions.
IC Rules:
Rule 1: Do not bring OOC conflicts into IC posts.
Rule 2: Private messages IC can be revealed by either party as desired. IC PMs can be quoted as though they were written as letters, so they will be regarded as written word which can be consulted unless specific measures are made to prevent this from happening (the "written word" can be destroyed by various measures, as long as they are IC).
Rule 3: Non-PM messages will be regarded as IC unless any player involved can provide proof that the words were stated OOC (this includes IM, private emails, and any other mode of communication outside of the forum's PM system. Proof will be up to the admin, but any reasonable statement of OOC should be accepted. OOC indicators will only be accepted on a per line basis unless one participant indicates that all chat is OOC). Voice chat is not considered IC for any circumstances.
Rule 4: All admin decisions are final. The moderating team has a final goal of realism, this means that if a decision is made by a mod/admin who has the authority, the rule is final, and cannot be appealed. It is the responsibility of the players to realistically respond to the moderator decisions, win or lose. This will help establish the atmosphere and realistic environment of Punic-era Rome.
Rule 5: Please PM the head admin for all secret actions. PM'd secret actions will overrule actions placed on the forum. This rule is deceptive, but deliberately so. It allows players to lead each other on and will prompt admin/moderator responses which determine the real action during a role-playing session.
Rule 6: Women are allowed, but only those which were realistic within Roman society. This means that women cannot hold political or military office, and their religious options are limited. We do not wish to discourage players who wish to play women, but the creativity required for a female character will be much higher and it is recommended that only experienced and enthusiastic players take on the challenge of a woman character. Transsexual players will be even more difficult, but the admins will listen to a petition that is made before character creation. Transsexual players will not be allowed unless the admins know and approve before character creation. Homosexual players are allowed, but their status will be treated realistically in the time period, that is to say that they can and will be looked down upon depending upon which actions are made public. Keep in mind that gender roles, homosexuality, and transgenderism were treated very differently in this time period, and thus will elicit reactions that may not conform to what modern minds expect. A player reacting in a homo or trans-phobic manner should not be looked down upon, as long as it is accurate to the setting, and as long as it does not spread to OOC interactions.
