Hello all,
I thought this would be a good thread to post our favorite resources for accurate historical customs (secondary sources, of course. We all know that the classical historians recorded things).
I personally am a big fan of Adrian Goldsworthy (of course). His descriptions of the army and their life is, in my opinion, the single resource that should be used by any layman. It is as in depth as possible before you become a professional historian. I also enjoyed reading Rubicon, by Tom Holland, although this book should not be regarded as factual history. He simply modernized the ancient tradition of the oral history. Still, if you ignore his incorrect choices in regards to facts you are given a history of Rome that could have come from one of the classic historians, with a much easier to read syntax.
